Welcome to Save of the Month! where each month we recognize a resident who went above and beyond to make a great save in the ED. Nominations are solicited from the faculty each block and we pick one resident for recognition and embarrassment on this blog.

This month’s edition goes to . . . Dr. Sally Bogoch!

Here’s the story . . .

sallybWe had a 9mo BIBEMS around 8:15 pm. Sally was about to go home after her busy Peds shift that ended at 7pm. She heard that we had a trauma notification and realized that I was left with a family medicine and a pediatric resident and volunteered to stay even though I didn’t ask her. The patient per EMS fell off a bed PTA and had +LOC and seizure. BMV was in progress by EMS and on arrival patient was still seizing and posturing with anisocoria. The patient required intubation, hyperventilation, mannitol, etc for TBI with raised ICP. Head CT showed a large SDH with midline shift requiring transfer.

Even though she was tired after a long shift, Sally stayed until about 11pm and played a major role in the resuscitation of this patient. She placed 2 IOs, took the patient back and forth to CT, and was at the bedside monitoring closely the neurological and CP status of the infant. It would have been hard for me without her that day. She went out of her way to help with that resus, and I think she is well deserved for this award.

Congrats Dr. Bogoch!
