This month’s edition goes to . . . Dr. Jorge Flores!
Here’s the story . . .
It was a busy night and Jorge picked up a young man with syncope. The patient had syncopized during intercourse. Jorge picked him up and determined the patient had a severe headache. He recognized that the patient needed a STAT head CT within 2-3 minutes of seeing him. Despite it being a busy shift, he pushed for the head CT and got it done in under 10 minutes.The patient had a large SAH. Jorge recognized this on his own immediately and transferred the patient to the critical care area. The patient was seen by neurosurgery, had a CTA, and was transferred for definitive treatment of his aneurysm within a few hours.
Jorge’s quick assessment and interpretation of the CT shaved precious moments off this patient’s work up and may well have saved his life.
