Welcome to Save of the Month! where each month we recognize a resident who went above and beyond to make a great save in the ED. Nominations are solicited from the faculty each block and we pick one resident for recognition and embarrassment on this blog.
This month’s edition goes to . . . Dr. Brenda Oiyemhonlan!
Here’s the story . . .
Brenda deserves the Save of the Month! We had a young woman present 3 times in 4 days for HA. She had a negative CT/LP on first presentation. The patient returned the next day with severe pain and was discharged after specialty consultation diagnosed her with status migrainosus. The patient returned the next day with persistent head and neck pain. Brenda asked to do an extracranial CTA despite disagreement with the consultant because she was a bounce back. The patient was diagnosed with a vertebral artery dissection and transferred for further management. She did a real great job going over the case again from the beginning and sticking to her gut to get the extra test.
Great job Brenda!
