Welcome to Save of the Month! where each month we recognize a resident who went above and beyond to make a great save in the ED. Nominations are solicited from the faculty each block and we pick one resident for recognition and embarrassment on this blog.

This month’s edition goes to . . . Dr. Elizabeth Abram!

Here’s the story . . .

labramDr. Abram saw an elderly female with generalized weakness for 4 days and vomiting 4 days ago, with no chest pain or shortness of
breath and a non-diagnostic ECG. She was (in retrospect co
rrectly) concerned that MI could be in the DDX and se
nt cardiac enzymes. The troponin came back as almost 7 and the BNP was over 1000. This could easily have been missed, even by an experienced attending. Definitely a great save!

Definitely a great pick up!

Excellent work Dr. Abrams. The subtle nature of your patient’s presentation and your clinical astuteness was indeed worthy of the save of the month. Continue the great work…Great picture too!
